Wandering through fiction

My thoughts on books I've been reading recently. This isn't going to be literary criticism, but based on my likes and dislikes.

Currently reading

Mistborn: The Final Empire
Brandon Sanderson
All That I Am
Anna Funder
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
J.K. Rowling
Magi'i of Cyador
L.E. Modesitt Jr.

Night Moves

Night Moves - Nora Roberts Enjoy the mix of crime and romance. Award winning musician moves to rural town, sparks fly with landscaper

Night Smoke

Night Smoke - Nora Roberts Sweet story. Better developed than some of hers.

When He Was Wicked: The Epilogue II

When He Was Wicked: The Epilogue II - Julia Quinn Would be more if it was longer

Colors of Chaos

Colors of Chaos - L.E. Modesitt Jr. Enjoyed the links between this and [b:The Magic Engineer|185200|The Magic Engineer (The Saga of Recluce #3)|L.E. Modesitt Jr.|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1390152205s/185200.jpg|1246810]. Good to see the amount of thought that went into discussing the complexities of trade and government. Much more to it than I remember from the first time I read it.

Faceless Killers

Faceless Killers - Henning Mankell, Steven T. Murray Not as good as I was hoping from the hype.

Mort

Mort - Terry Pratchett Re-read. Not as good as I remember it, but still has some good moments.

The Collectors

The Collectors - Philip Pullman, Bill Nighy Entertaining short to listen to. Took a while to work out what was going on.

The Little Old Lady Who Broke All The Rules

The Little Old Lady Who Broke All The Rules - Catharina Ingelman-Sundberg Enjoyed this with the old people causing chaos. Frustrated by the number of unlikely occurrences

Death Masks

Death Masks - Jim Butcher Liked the bad guys in this. One of the strongest books in the series so far

Bloodline

Bloodline - Mark Billingham I enjoyed this. I like the development of Thorne's relationship with Louise.

An Echo in the Bone

An Echo in the Bone - Diana Gabaldon Too many storylines and has gone from mainly historical with a bit of weirdness to an awful lot of time travelling oddness

A Very Accidental Love Story

A Very Accidental Love Story - Claudia Carroll This was ok, nothing special though

Equal Rites (Discworld #3)

Equal Rites - Terry Pratchett Enjoyed rereading this. forgotten the power of headology and how sexism works in discworld. Witches books remain among my favourites in this world.

The Memory of Love

The Memory of Love - Aminatta Forna This made me really uncomfortable in parts - very graphic, nonromanticised sex scenes make for difficult reading especially when it's asentences dropped in with very little warning.

Found the relationship between Elias and Safia v odd, and quite stalkerish.

Just didn't suit the mood I was in while listening to it and nearly became a dnf

Bloodhound

Bloodhound - Tamora Pierce Good to see another bit of Tortall. Good character development

The Book of Lost Things

The Book of Lost Things - John Connolly Not sure what I made of this one. A lot of very adult themes despite the number of fairy tale adaptations in it. A pretty dark book in general.
